Ever wonder what God’s “State of the Union” would be?

Ever wonder what God’s “State of the Union” would be?  The President addressed both houses of Congress and the nation Monday evening, delivering his seventh and final State of the Union address.  Fifty-three minutes of speech interrupted seventy times by applause—both partisan and bipartisan.  There were no spectacular pronouncements or announcements, just the last review, pundits suggested, of a presidency and administration laying out its final agenda before becoming eclipsed by the election of a successor.

So what if God took the podium of earth and gave an address?  No doubt there would be plenty of partisan applause- or amen-bursts for him, too.  And no doubt it would garner global attention.  But how would his review of the past read, and how would his agenda for the future play?  And would he need fifty-three minutes?

The Apocalypse, amazingly enough, actually captures God’s final address-appeal to earth.  While it doesn’t describe him at the podium of a government house, it portrays his global address as three angel beings streaking across the earth heavens, each with a passionate pronouncement and appeal.  Combined they are clearly the divine State of the Union for earth’s populace in its final generation. “Then I saw another angel flying in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach to those who dwell on the earth—to every nation, tribe, tongue, and people—saying with a loud voice, ‘Fear God and give glory to Him, for the hour of His judgment has come; and worship Him who made heaven and earth, the sea and springs of water’” (Revelation 14:6, 7 NKJV).   And behind the first angel appears a second pronouncing the fall of “
Babylon the Great.”  And on his heels flies a third angel with the urgent warning for earth inhabitants to resist the “mark of the beast.”  And the summation of their combined messages is a description of God’s partisan loyalists at the end:  “Here is a call for the endurance of the saints, those who keep the commandments of God and hold fast to the faith of Jesus” (Revelation 14:12 NRSV).

And did you catch the first angel’s appeal, “Worship the Creator!”  Because wouldn’t you know it, the issue of a divine Creator with his seventh-day Sabbath will take center stage on earth just before his return.  No wonder the Creator’s partisan loyal supporters are described the way they are!  Because as we saw Monday evening, when you’re loyal to your Leader, you’ll stand to your feet even if you’re the only one applauding.

I have just got done studying the sabbath with a young man and he finally declared that he felt no conviction for the sabbath truth I'm still going to pray for that young man, but Praise God that I finally accepted the sabbath truth and will stand for God by His grace.

Good to see you have 3 comments on January 2, 08. Some of God's address would be accepted heartily, with plenty of acknowledgements. The other would be just like it is to-day, either ignored or scoffed at. Past history tells us. Then they (or us) may kill Him.

The question is "do we have the fear of God in us"? We watch on an almost daily basis the "leaders" of our country waltz around on a stage looking to get votes, looking to sway someones' opinion, looking to portray that "lily WHite" image that should come with somone who is in office. But there is no one who can cover up what they truly are. Spiritually decreped. We listen to the politicians because they are our reality. When do we turn to the Almighty Creator of the Universe? We tend to fear these politicians because they have the power to effect our reality. Can they fix the economy? Can they get us out of war? Can they help the middle and lower classes? Why can't we turn our focus, adjust our sights, and aim for a higher standard than the one that is here on earth. As Christians we understand the importance of the days that we are living in. Luke 17:26-30 gives us a good picture of the last days. Yet where do we lay up our treasures? Matthew 19:24 clearly states "It's easier for a fully loaded camel to crawl on its knees through the Needle Gate of Jerusalem than for a rich man to get into the kingdom of heaven-unless he, too, falls on his knees admitting his need of God." Clear Word. It is true that GOd has delivered his State of the Union. He gave it to us a long time ago. What we need is to fear Him, give Him the glory and praise, for we don't know what hour of our lives we live.

I have SDA friends and I notice there's not alot ,if any ,talk about salvation. They and 3ABN spend most of their time trying to get converts for SDA. Now I see a trend of changing the name to SD"sabbath people"???? If you spent equal time on seeking the lost to Christ as you did seeking them to the 7th day we would have a revival. But,I suppose you've heard this many times already. Believe me when I say: WITH MUCH LOVE, Pastor John

Hi Pastor. I listened to your sermon on 'Love one Another' at Newlife Church in Nairobi last Sabbath (Feb 16). God knows we needed that message at this time in our circumstances. Your presentation on 'the men from the east' in the afternoon really touched me. I never knew how deeply my faith was linked to Islam. I have shared snippets from the presentation with a non-Adventist friend and she is really keen on knowing more. I have given her a link to this blog. I'm looking for a link to the sermon and the presentation. God bless you and Karen. Keep on with the good work. We pray that God keeps you in good health to continue with His work.
