More In This Series

04/25/2015
As we enter the final chapter of Joseph's story, we ask "what does it all mean?" Perhaps most important, what does it all mean for us today?
04/18/2015
Now ruler of all Egypt, Joseph is suddenly brought face to face with the demons of his past. Can he forgive his brothers who sold him to a life of slavery? Or will they suffer his wrath?
04/04/2015
When Jacob learned that his son Joseph still lived, it was as if his boy had been resurrected from the dead. It is fitting then that we look to this story as we celebrate the resurrection of the One who died that we might live.
03/28/2015
It's one of the most beloved stories from the Bible: the story of Joseph. But what can this ancient story teach us about our own broken relationships?

      • “When a woman is nursing her child and she’s skin-to-skin with her baby, her brain releases a neurochemical called oxytocin, which emotionally bonds her to her child. The same thing happens during sex. God designed oxytocin as the glue for human bonding. During a sexual release, oxytocin, along with other neurochemicals, are released and cause us to emotionally bond with our partner. When you watch porn, powerful neurotransmitters such as dopamine are also released, which bond you to those images.” (Ibid)

      • Timothy Keller: “Instead of telling [urban dwellers] they are sinning because they are sleeping with their girlfriends or boyfriends, I tell them that they are sinning because they are looking to their romances to give their lives meaning, to justify and save them, to give them what they should be looking for from God. This idolatry leads to anxiety, obsessiveness, envy, and resentment. I have found that when you describe their lives in terms of idolatry, postmodern people do not give much resistance. Then Christ and his salvation can be presented not (at this point) so much as their only hope for forgiveness, but as their only hope for freedom.” (Quoted in Philip Yancey’s Vanishing Grace 79-80).

Religious Liberty

Matthew 5:9-13 “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.”

The purpose of religious liberty ministry within the church is to protect our ability to share and practice our faith both here in the United States and around the world. The Public Affairs and Religious Liberty departments serve to protect and defend our sacred freedoms through a variety of means, that includes the distribution of literature, the education of members and pastors, and legal advocacy, to name a few.

The funds provided today also help sponsor Liberty Magazine subscriptions to individuals who make decisions that impact our ability to live out our religious convictions. It also supports the legal defense of members that experience religious discrimination in the workplace.

The Seventh-day Adventist Church also advocates on behalf of the religious freedoms of individuals who believe differently than we do. In doing so we honor God’s gracious gift of individual choice and the power of the Holy Spirit to motivate sincere change. We invite you to prayerfully consider giving generously today to help others learn the importance of religious liberty and to assist members with religious liberty needs.

New Winter Sabbath Journey: "A Banner Unfurled"

I hope you will join us (online or in-person) for a worship journey we may never have been on together. "A Banner Unfurled" will be a fresh plunge into the shining truth about our Creator-Savior and His gift of the seventh day, the Sabbath, to humanity.
We won’t be arguing over which Day—we already know. But we will be creatively exploring how existentially/experientially the treasure of Christ embedded in the Day can reignite our pandemic-shadowed lives with new light and meaning this New Year.

I'm praying we'll never be the same again as a result of this exploration. And I hope you invite your friends and family to join us.

For your handy reference here is the lineup of our Pioneer winter Sabbaths in 2022:

  • January 8 – "Killing Time"
  • January 15  – "'The Peace of Wild Things'"
  • January 22  – "'All the Light We Cannot See'"
  • January 29 –  Andrews University Student Association Sabbath
  • February 5  – "Familiarity Breeds Contempt"
  • February 12 – "'My Soul Followeth Hard After Thee'"
  • February 19 – Pathfinder Sabbath
